The Path of a Life of Contemplation (walking with/in God) is found by being open to letting God find you in Jesus the Christ. An awesome experiential life indeed! The spiritual dynamic of the above Jesus Prayer is not in the repetitive nature of the practice, as it is not in any prayer communion. The Dynamic is letting God guide you into the depths (or as some may say ,,, "the weeds") of the word's inspired meanings, anointed by God, in which the Holy Spirit will move you "deep unto deep" in an intimacy with Himself ~ God.
Blessings always! |
Jesus said ...., "I am the way,
and the truth, and the life ..." John 14:6 "It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God, through Christ our Lord."
Excerpt from 'Contemplative Prayer, by Thomas Merton.
"In meditation, we should not look for a 'method' or a 'system' but cultivate an 'attitude' and 'outlook' : faith, openness, attention, reverence, expectation, supplication, trust, joy. All these finally permeate our being with love in so far as our living faith tells us we are in the presence of God, that we live in Christ, that in the Spirit of God we 'see' God the Father without seeing. Faith is the bond that unites us with Him in the Spirit who gives us light and love. |

~ Jesus Prayer Beads ~
This prayer experience is found in the silence of the soul. You are not praying for the purpose of just praying (often asking; which of course is fine because asking is encouraged by God); you are praying in communion (common-union) with God - Relationship. Although the suggested words or phrases below are repeated with each bead, the expectation of the Holy Spirit (God) having infused within you the grace of the mysteries of the Divine Kingdom: Faith, Hope and Charity (see CCC 1812 and 1813), will plant seed and the seed grows into spiritual fruit in this lifetime. As promised in the Scripture, yes, you and I can know God, albeit dimly. Keep in mind (soul), as Son of God and Son of Man, Jesus is the complete revelation of God to us.

Originating in the 4th Century, the suggested words and phrases are repeated with a deep sense of heart (yours) within Heart (God’s):. “Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me, a sinner.” Traditionally this is practiced (since the 4th Century) with controlled breathing: "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God" … is said as the breath is taken in, and … "have mercy on me, a sinner" … is said as the breath is let out. You can use any word of love and/or praise God puts in your heart. You become a living prayer for God.
These beads have no special powers in and of rhemselves, nor do beads demand “favors” from God. The beads and their use ought to be blind to the user, in that the focus is God in Presence. In other words, commune with the God who graciously shares His Only Begotten Son, Jesus, in divinity and humanity, so that we can know in the deepest recesses of our souls a love relationship within and beyond natural understanding. Yes, this relationship is indeed super-natural, based in Faith, Hope and Love (as God IS and shares Himself) This is a prayer in meditation that opens us up to a path of least resistance to grow into a life lived out in the "real world" in contemplation.
Other prayer options are as limitless as the Spirit leads >>>>>>
“I love you, Father (God).” “I love you, Jesus.” “I love you, Most Holy Trinity.” “Mercy on me./us” "Mercy" “Thank you, God.” "Jesus" “Thank you Lord Jesus the Christ “Thank you, Lord, for your justice.”
"Jesus, Son of God, thank You for __________________________________ (fill in the blank)"
“All glory, honor and praise be to God” (In Silence, know the presence of God.)

Lastly, each cross is handmade, unique, (some) rough, not polished, cut from various kinds of wood and wood scraps. The significance of this reflects the uniqueness and intimacy of the cross for each of us, in that Jesus meets each of us where He finds us, in our brokenness, pain and joy. In turn, we grow in the reflection of His continuous love on earth through divine silence, justice, joy, peace, and at times, pain ("Wounds are our glory,”... Julian of Norwich). In the spirit of the following words of Saint Benedict …we must pray to God “with all humility and purity of devotion … not in many words but in purity of heart and in the compunction of tears.” And let us always say a Marian “YES” to an ongoing surrender to God’s merciful love. God bless your love journey in Jesus, through the power of the Holy Spirit; and have it flow over to your families, brothers and sisters, friends and colleagues.
