The spiritual dynamic of the above Jesus Prayer is not in the repetitive nature of the practice, as it is not in any prayer communion. The Dynamic is letting God guide you into the depths (or as some may say ,,, "the weeds") of the word's inspired meanings, anointed by God, in which the Holy Spirit will move you "deep unto deep" in an intimacy with Himself ~ God. Blessings always!

Jesus said . . .
"I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life . . ." John 14:6 The Path of a Life of Contemplation (walking with/in God) is found by being open to letting God find you in Jesus the Christ. An awesome experiential life indeed!
"It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always
and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God. For, although you have no need of our praise, yet our thanksgiving is itself your gift, since our praises add nothing to your greatness but profit us for salvation through Christ our Lord." |
Hebrews 3:13 But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called “Today,” . . .
Ephesians 1:3 "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ:" Psalm 116:1 "I love the LORD, because He hears My voice and my pleas." Psalm 116:5 "Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; Yes, our God is compassionate." Psalm 116:9 "I shall walk before the LORD In the land of the living." Psalm 72:15 " . . .they shall pray for him without ceasing and bless them all the day. 'Psalm 44:8 All day long our boast was in God and we praise your name without ceasing." |
Excerpt from "Contemplative Prayer" by Thomas Merton.
"In meditation, we should not look for a 'method' or a 'system' but cultivate an 'attitude' and 'outlook' : faith, openness, attention, reverence, expectation, supplication, trust, joy. All these finally permeate our being with love in so far as our living faith tells us we are in the presence of God, that we live in Christ, that in the Spirit of God we 'see' God the Father without seeing. Faith is the bond that unites us with Him in the Spirit who gives us light and love.

St. Palamas said,” Let not one think, my fellow Christians, that only priests and monks need to pray without ceasing and not laymen...No, No! Every Christian without exception ought to dwell on prayer.”
You, Beloved, builds yourselves up in your most holy faith; pray in the Holy Spirit." ~ Jude 20

Originating in the 4th Century, the suggested words and phrases are repeated with a deep sense of heart (yours) within Heart (God’s):. “Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me, a sinner.” Traditionally this is practiced (since the 4th Century) with controlled breathing: "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God" … is said as the breath is taken in, and … "have mercy on me, a sinner" … is said as the breath is let out. You can use any word of love and/or praise God puts in your heart. You become a living prayer for God.
~ Jesus Prayer Beads ~
This prayer experience is found in the silence of the soul. You are not praying for the purpose of just praying (often asking; which of course is fine because asking is encouraged by God); you are praying in communion (common-union) with God - Relationship. Although the suggested words or phrases below are repeated with each bead, the expectation of the Holy Spirit (God) having infused within you the grace of the mysteries of the Divine Kingdom: Faith, Hope and Charity (see CCC 1812 and 1813), will plant seed and the seed grows into spiritual fruit in this lifetime. As promised in the Scripture, yes, you and I can know God, albeit dimly. Keep in mind (soul), as Son of God and Son of Man, Jesus is the complete revelation of God to us.

Come, my people, enter your chambers, and shut your doors behind you; hide yourselves for a little while. . . .” (Is 26).
"The man who fears to be alone will never be anything but lonely, no matter how much he may surround himself with people. But the man who learns, in solitude and recollection, to be at peace with his own loneliness, and to prefer its reality to the illusion of merely natural companionship, comes to know the invisible companionship of God. Such a one is alone with God in all places, and he alone truly enjoys the companionship of other men, because he loves them in God in Whom their presence is not tiresome, and because of Whom his own love for them can never know satiety.” ― Thomas Merton, No Man Is an Island
(#WB003) 50 ~ 5-6mm wooden beads and spacer with the word PRAY and a Cross burned into wood. Getting two rows would be potentially possible with roughly 22-3 centimeter wrist circumference.
|
(#WB004) 100 ~ 8mm wooden beads and spacer with the words of FAITH, HOPE and LOVE burned into wood. Getting four rows would be difficult around a roughly 26 centimeter wrist circumference because the line utilized is string not elastic. A smaller wrist size could try and get 5 loops?
Perhaps better used as a necklace. |
The Catechism clearly defines prayer as a "vital and personal relationship with the living and true God" (CCC, no. 2558). Prayer is Christian "insofar as it is communion with Christ" (CCC, no. 2565), and a "covenant relationship between God and man in Christ" (CCC, no. 2564).
These beads have no special powers in and of rhemselves, nor do beads demand “favors” from God. The beads and their use ought to be blind to the user, in that the focus is God in Presence. In other words, commune with the God who graciously shares His Only Begotten Son, Jesus, in divinity and humanity, so that we can know in the deepest recesses of our souls a love relationship within and beyond natural understanding. Yes, this relationship is indeed super-natural, based in Faith, Hope and Love (as God IS and shares Himself) This is a prayer in meditation that opens us up to a path of least resistance to grow into a life lived out in the "real world" in contemplation.
Therefore, wait for Me, ”declares the LORD, ..." Zephaniah 3:8
Other prayer options are as limitless as the Spirit leads >>>>>> “I love you, Father (God).” “I love you, Jesus.” “I love you, Most Holy Trinity.” “Mercy on me./us” "Mercy" “Thank you, God.” "Jesus" “Thank you, Lord, for your justice.” "Jesus, Son of God, thank You for __________________________________ (fill in the blank)" “Thank you Lord Jesus the Christ “All glory, honor and praise be to God” (In Silence/Stillness [hesychia], know the presence of God.)

Human language falls silent before the mystery of resurrection. Only one word remains to us: Alleluia!"

In No Greater Love, Mother Teresa wrote: “Jesus taught us how to pray, and He also told us to learn from Him to be meek and humble of heart. Neither of these can we do unless we know what silence is. Both humility and prayer grow from an ear, mind, and tongue that have lived in silence with God, for in the silence of the heart God speaks.”

Lastly, each cross is handmade, unique, (some) rough, not polished, cut from various kinds of wood and wood scraps. The significance of this reflects the uniqueness and intimacy of the cross for each of us, in that Jesus meets each of us where He finds us, in our brokenness, pain and joy. In turn, we grow in the reflection of His continuous love on earth through divine silence, justice, joy, peace, and at times, pain ("Wounds are our glory,”... Julian of Norwich). In the spirit of the following words of Saint Benedict …we must pray to God “with all humility and purity of devotion … not in many words but in purity of heart and in the compunction of tears.” And let us always say a Marian “YES” to an ongoing surrender to God’s merciful love. God bless your love journey in Jesus, through the power of the Holy Spirit; and have it flow over to your families, brothers and sisters, friends and colleagues.
"Never give up prayer, and should you find dryness and difficulty, persevere in it for this very reason. God often desires to see what love your soul has, and love is not tried by ease and satisfaction." – St. John of the Cross
"Jesus loves you more than you can ever imagine by relying solely on your natural senses"
Intimate relationship with God can very well and rightly bring forth tears of pain, joy, appreciating God's awesomeness, humbleness, humility, ecstasy ... among other expressions of love as God imparts grace.
“The most beautiful thing a person could say about God would be to remain silent from the wisdom of an inner wealth. So, be silent and quit flapping your gums about God,”
advises Meister Eckhart, the German theologian born in 1260.

Let us bless the Lord at all times, his praise always on our lips! - Magnificat 10/2/21
I will bless the Lord at all times, His praise shall continually be in my mouth. (Ps 33:1)

"Seeking the face of God in everything, everyone, all the time, and his hand in every happening; This is what it means to be contemplative in the heart of the world. Seeing and adoring the presence of Jesus, especially in the lowly appearance of bread, and in the distressing disguise of the poor.” ― Mother Teresa, In the Heart of the World: Thoughts, Stories and Prayers
There is some text out there that in symbolic "tassels" represent a material to letting us wipe away the tears that are the fruition of deep contemplative prayer.
For me, prayer is a surge of the heart; it is a simple look turned toward heaven, it is a cry of recognition and of love, embracing both trial and joy."

- Most Jesus Prayer beads and crosses are wood. Crosses will be rough (on the most part), nothing exotic, just simplicity. Wood could be Pine, Black Walnut, Driftwood, Cherry, Cedar, Poplar, etc. .
- If a set of beads gets broken, reach me through the site's Order page.
- DO NOT wet beads. An occasional hand sanitation gel of the set may be a good idea.
- This ministry is a FREE service to those interested. However, exception noted in next bullet.
- Elastic cords do stretch out over time. This can be remediated by tying a knot in the line to shorten same or return to me for a fix and it will be returned. A $5 donation for a fix is suggested for mailing the beads back to you.
- This is not a business, nor a non-profit. Just a humble "pauper's*" hobby, offered with sincere humility.
